Mr. O: I love crazy female vocals (see my prior love of Joanna Newsom and the Dirty Projectors), so when I heard there was a Bjork (!) and Dirty Projectors (!!!) collaboration (!!!!!!!) I was on it. This project was done as a charity album and all proceeds benefit the National Geographic Society Oceans Project. I think its a great album, and a really cool collaboration.

Wizard Staff: This is a sweet dance record with some nice, loud distortion. Some of the beats have a little hip-hop to them, and some are more rock-sounding. The distortion has a particular nastiness that ties the whole record together.

Woodshed:  Shoegaze, ambient, and dream pop are all great genres to categorize this album, if you must do so.  "Kim & Jessie" is by far the most logical song for most listeners, propelling ears and minds into the stars right from the jump.  Saturdays=Youth is some hazy synth-ballad-pop action that only true alt. bro's such as myself can respect.

Mr. O: Here's what it breaks down to: do you (a) already love the Black Keys or (b) just love that funky blues sound? If you answered yes to either of those then keep reading. The new Black Keys album is exactly what you should expect from them--an extremely well produced, soulful album with one strong song after another. But hey I happen to love the Black Keys. While I miss Danger Mouses production from Attack & Release here a bit this is still a solid album (and DM is present in "Tighten Up") so give her a whirl.

Mr. O: Janelle Monae's new album based off of the 1927 German silent Film "Metropolis" is a  psychedelic romp through some crazy psuedo-futuristic world. I love Monae and while the album doesn't quite live up to my expectations (lead single tightrope had me ridiculously excited) it is a great album.  Album standouts for me are "Tightrope" (check out our song review sections for the super funky music video), "Cold War", and "Oh, Maker".
